Uterine Fibroids
Uterine fibroids affect 25%-50% of women at some point in their lives. While many are asymptomatic, fibroids can cause symptoms such as irregular painful menstruation, low back pain, lower abdomen pain, urinary retention, and pain during sex. Uterine fibroids are positively diagnosed either by bimanual exam or ultrasound.
Chinese Medical Diagnosis
In Chinese Medicine, uterine fibroids are classified under the disease category zheng jia, abdominal masses. Zheng Jia includes the western disease categories of uterine fibroid, ovarian cyst, and endometriosis. The disease can present with three possible patterns.
1. Stagnation of Qi
2.Blood Stasis
3. Phlegm-Damp Accumulation
As with other TCM treatments, the choice of herbal formula and acupuncture treatment should be based on both the pattern and the presenting signs and symptoms.
Three Flower Oil
Many practitioners use castor oil packs, or fomentations, as an adjunct therapy to acupuncture and herbal treatment to ease pain and discomfort associated with uterine fibroids. Herban Pharmer’s unique medicated castor oil, called Three Flower Oil, is a soothing topical therapy that even more strongly addresses the pain and discomfort, and depending on the location of the fibroid, might also aid in diminishing the fibroid itself.
The traditional actions of the constituents are:
Bai Shao (White Peony)- Nourishes the blood and softens the liver. It can help to smooth liver qi stagnation and the associated pain. It also helps to reduce the stagnation and pain due to blood deficiency.
Mei Gui Hua (Rose) - Promotes the movement of qi and relieves constraint. It also harmonizes the blood and disperses stasis: for irregular menstruation, and menstrual pain due to blood stasis.
Hong Hua (Safflower)- Invigorates the blood, dispels stasis, and unblocks menstruation. It can effectively address all manner of stasis related menses problems.
Castor Oil - Used externally, it has been shown to dissolve and draw out cysts, tumors, warts, growths, and other toxic accumulations.
To apply our Three Flower Oil, prepare the hot-pack/ fomentation as you would normally. Lay gauze or a cut piece of paper towel large enough to cover the area. Place over a larger piece of plastic wrap or parchment paper and moisten gauze with the oil. Apply oil-side down to abdomen and apply hot-pack. Be sure to use proper precautions to avoid burning patient.
If you are a patient, consult with your health care practitioner about treatment options that may be appropriate for your medical condition. If you have questions about the use of Herban Pharmer products for yourself or for others, you or they should consult with a qualified practitioner.
Happy Healing,
Pharmer Jake
