Welcome!

I began Herban Pharmer before it had a name, and without conscious endeavor. While attending Pacific College of Oriental Medicine (PCOM), I began making liniments according to the traditional martial arts recipes published in Matt Callison’s “Treatment of Orthopedic Disorders” textbook and shared them with my teammates- elite, collegiate, and professional triathletes. Many of them were UCSD graduate students of the western scientific persuasion. We were all in awe of the powerful healing these simple liniments provided. Over the following few years, further study, research, and trials brought modifications to the original liniments making them even more powerful and effective.

In 2007, I founded Herban Pharmer with the idea of making Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) based topical preparations available to others. Jake Potts, L.Ac., joined me and together we began supplying these liniments and poultices to local San Diego practitioners and clinics, as well as to the San Diego PCOM Clinic. Jake built our original website which enabled better access for our customers to both the products and informational resources we provided. Primarily through word of mouth, our products grew in popularity and are purchased by both practitioners and savvy or curious patients across the United States.

To date, all sales proceeds have been reinvested in the company. This has enabled research and development of products like our Tendinopathy Poultice. In a very short time, this became our top-selling poultice, and for good reason- it addresses an all too common pathology, and does it well. We now offer an equally powerful and effective liniment, Tendinitis Relief, based on the original poultice formulation. Other products have been added during the last couple years, often in response to requests by customers. Our newest release, Diabetic’s Friend, is the latest version of a medicated herbal oil that I have been making for a couple years for my youngest son, age 8 and a Type 1 diabetic, to ease the pain from his numerous finger pricks per day needed to monitor his blood sugar. We thought it important to make this effective solution available to others.

Perhaps the most important outcome of our selfless reinvestment is today’s Herban Pharmer. For the past year we have worked countless hours, tirelessly in pursuit of bringing a vision to reality. Jake and I are both proud to present our efforts realized, and to invite you to a unique resource of products, services, and information.

In addition to our clinically proven TCM based herbal topicals, you can find powerful solutions from the clinic of herbalist and author Thomas Avery Garran, who combines the best of local western herbs and Chinese herbs and from a TCM perspective. He shares with us his knowledge and experience so that we can also understand and use these ideas in our own clinics and homes.  We are proud to produce his “Pharmer Thomas” line for him.

Founder Eric Brand, L.Ac., author, translator, editor, teacher, and lecturer, makes available not only his high quality line of granule herbs, but also shares his incredible passion for herbal medicine through his many educational contributions.
